Open role

Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI

Build the AI that makes Bavardio feel intelligent to the people who use it every day.

LocationRemote (US or international with US-hours overlap)
TypeFull-time or senior contract

AI is the heart of why Bavardio feels different. Today our AI helps customer service reps handle calls in real time, helps network engineers find outages before customers report them, and helps field technicians plan their day. You will lead the engineering behind all of that. You will choose which problems AI should solve next, decide how to build it, measure whether it actually helps, and iterate fast when it does not. You work directly with the founders, and your work is in front of real users within weeks of joining.

The work

What you will own.

  • The agent system that powers AI features across the product. How it reasons, what tools it can reach for, what context it remembers, and how it hands off to a human when it should.
  • The way we measure whether the AI is actually getting better. The tests, the datasets, the dashboards. If you cannot measure a change, you cannot ship it.
  • Real-time AI inside live phone calls. Latency matters here. A response that is late is a response that is useless.
  • Picking the right model for the right job. Balancing quality, speed, and cost so this works at scale and not just in a demo.
  • Deciding where AI shows up in the product next. What it does there. How we know it is working.
  • Talking to the operators and CSRs whose jobs we are trying to make easier. Their reactions are the real benchmark.

About you

What we are looking for.

  • You have shipped AI features that real users rely on in production, not demos. This is a senior role, and we look at the quality of your work over your years of tenure. Self-taught, career-switcher, and non-traditional paths are welcome.
  • Strong opinions about what makes an AI product feel magical versus what makes it feel gimmicky, formed from things you have actually built.
  • Comfort with both real-time AI (where every 100ms counts) and batch AI (where throughput matters).
  • You decide what to build when nobody has handed you the answer. You build it, watch it in production, and adjust.
  • Ownership mindset. You write things down because thinking gets sharper on paper. You talk to users because nothing replaces that. You care, deeply, about whether your AI is actually helping, and you build the measurements to prove it.
  • Available for at least 4 hours per day overlapping US working hours.

Useful, not required

  • You have built voice AI before and you know what makes a voice agent feel natural versus what makes it feel like a robot.
  • You have designed or extended agent systems beyond chat. Tool use, memory, multi-step workflows.
  • You have built retrieval systems at real scale and you know when they help and when they get in the way.

Why Bavardio

What working here is like.

Founders within reach

You will work directly with the founders. Decisions happen in hours, not committees. Your ideas land in production the same week.

Customer access

You will meet the operators using Bavardio at conferences, on-site visits, and weekly product calls. The feedback is direct and the impact is visible.

Remote, with intention

Work from wherever you do your best work. We meet up a few times a year for in-person sprints and customer trips.

Health and time off

Medical, dental, and vision. Flexible PTO, and the cultural expectation that you actually take it.

Apply

Tell us what you have built.

Skip the cover letter. Tell us the substance: the most painful version of this problem you have personally shipped, and what you learned from it. We read every application and respond within five business days. If your background does not match every bullet above, apply anyway. We hire on the strength of what you have built.

Bavardio is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on the strength of your work and the way you think. Background, identity, and where you live do not factor in.
